In the classroom, one of my first teacher acts has always been to jot down student birthdays and also to post monthly birthdays by the door. I post them by the door so they will be seen and the students will celebrate each other.
How hard is it for school leaders to do the same with their staff? And not just their teachers, but ALL of their staff: custodians, cafeteria, security, even bus drivers. They are all part of the school community.
We wonder why we have such high turnover at many of our schools. I'll bet the majority of these school leaders are not recognizing the talent that they have.
