In 2017, I joined a neighborhood high school in North Philadelphia. My task was to design a brand new integrated high school STEAM curriculum. My strategy was to use the School District of Philadelphia's HS Science curriculum as the "backbone" of the curriculum while pairing high school Math content with the Science skills.
Towards the end of the first Unit on Motion, I wanted to infuse a project-based assessment. After research, I discovered the Pinewood Derby Car race. Without any equipment or funds, I crowdsourced needed supplies and converted the classroom essentially into a wookshop for two weeks. Here are some of the results:
