It's interesting, most of the Google results for "Progress Monitoring" have to do with MTSS/RTI and Special Education. However, I'm going to suggest ALL students monitor their progress all the time. Why would we limit it to just kids in special ed?
The way this has worked in my classrooms is that every Monday I would post a list, a spreadsheet, showing all of the assignments that were due the previous week along with which students completed which assignments. (This list would display student IDs instead of student names.) Then, students would be permitted to submit assignments late.
This becomes a great way for students to monitor their own progress, since I post the lists on the back wall of the classroom, and students see which assignments they are missing, get them done, and let me know.
