How many times are we listening to our students? How many times are we asking our students what they think? prefer? Without doing this, how can we possibly personalize student learning?
A lot has been said about the importance of building relationships with kids. I'd like to add that the best time and place I've found to build relationships with struggling learners / "behavior problems" is at the recess yard.
If your school has recess, I've found it to be the best time to connect with those struggling students. Take some time away from your classroom and play whichever games your kids are playing. I guarantee it will be a "game-changer." (See what I did there? 😃 )
If your school does not have recess, try connecting with students during lunch or after school if they are part of a school activity.
