As a school community, I believe we serve the interests of the local community. Besides parents, that includes local businesses. My vision is for business leaders in the local community to serve on an advisory committee to the school. This could serve to suggest in-demand, real-world career readiness.
Further, this local business advisory committee could meet with leadership at the school to suggest classes that would prepare students for the careers that those business leaders are having trouble filling. Additionally, these business leaders could assist in writing curricula based on their actual needs! It doesn't get more real-world than that.
Also, the business community could obviously offer internships, student competitions, mentorship, etc.
