Recently, I was working with a principal at a historically underperforming school within an underperforming district. Here is what I learned:
District takes 3 weeks to onboard new hires--during the "off-season" of hiring. 3 weeks!
New staff do not necessarily receive personal devices on day 1.
Teachers have to wait up to 2 weeks to gain access to attendance applications, which includes access to parent contact info.
The school does not have extra keys for new hires, so they have to borrow from other staff members.
I said to the principal that essentially there are things we can control in our schools and things we can't. All of the above mentioned are controllable. Things like student behavior we cannot necessarily control. My point was that the district/school needs to rectify these unnecessary issues if they wish to retain skilled teachers.
